WTDirect Online Savings Account Review

Do you have a high cash balance and need a good place to stash those funds other than a CD or traditional savings account? If so, you might consider WTDirect. WTDirect was started in 2006 as the online savings arm of Wilmington Trust FSB, a company that is owned by the Wilmington Trust Company, who has been around since 1903.

WTDirect Savings Account Review

The WTDirect Savings Account

The WTDirect savings account is not unlike most other online savings accounts: no fees or minimums, connected to an older (traditional) bank, FDIC Insured, etc. They have no minimum balance and a great introductory rate (regardless of balance). It's a solid, no frills place to safely store your savings. Although one thrill they have over other online savings accounts is their mobile banking access.

But WTDirect isn't for everyone. After 60 days, the great rate goes away unless you maintain an average balance of $10,000. For those that are just building an emergency fund, this may not be the best place for you unless you can see yourself getting to the $10,000 mark by the 60 day mark or shortly after. It should also be noted that WTDirect doesn't have a checking account, CDs, or any other financial product to tap into. They are just a savings account. For some people this may be a plus though I realize.

WTDirect Savings Account BannerWTDirect has done a good job of positioning themselves to carve out a specific niche within the online savings community. Where WTDirect appears to shine is in meeting the needs of high balance clients using their high limit money transfers, a top rate reserved for high balance savers, and quality customer service.

I actually tested their customer service on the sales side. I used their “call me” service and received a call from WTDirect customer service within a couple of seconds of entering my number. I was on the phone with a representative in under a minute. Their customer service is available 7 days a week. To contact WTDirect customer service, use the number 1-800-983-4732.

When you sign up with WTDirect you will need your social security number, driver's license, funding bank information, and the mortgage or loan information matching your credit report (to verify identity). There is no hard credit pull with the sign up process. As an FYI, the WTDirect routing number is 052173464. The sign up process takes 5 to 10 minutes.
