Steady App Review | Best Side Hustle App?

This is our Steady App review. I spent some time looking into the first app built for side hustlers, called Steady. Today I’m back to share what I found.

If you are a college student or recent graduate looking to make extra money and get some on-the-job experience, Steady may be a great place to get started.

The Steady App brings available side hustles right to your phone. Their free app lists all kinds of gigs (some paying more than $25/hr.) which you can search and filter (part-time, from home, anytime, etc.) down to find the right side hustle for you.

Our Steady App Review: How Steady Works

You can download the Steady App free on all major platforms. It provides you with ways to make extra money through a list of well-curated side hustles to meet the quickly increasing demand of the gig economy.

The app allows you to search for gigs using filters and lists both side hustles and micro-gigs all the way up to traditional jobs.

Simply sign up, enter your zip code, and scroll through available side hustles to get started in just minutes.

The Steady App Sign Up Process

The sign-up process is the same on both the website and app.

Simply enter your personal information and agree to the necessary permissions.

• Input your name, phone number, and email address
• Enable SMS notifications (optional)
• Create a unique password

NOTE: You can sign up using your Facebook account as well, to speed things along.

Once all the information is verified, you’re good to go.

Getting Started

Next, you’ll need to take a short survey which will help the app match you to available opportunities.

Questions include:

• What kind of work are you looking for?
• What’s most important in the opportunities you are looking for?
• What do you want to do with the extra cash you earn from Steady?
• Where do you want to work?
• What is your highest level of education?
• What does your work situation look like right now?

There is also a series of questions to guide Steady to best assist you with products and information.

Any and all questions can be skipped if you don’t want to answer them. Not all questions are geared towards helping you find a job—some are for marketing purposes.

Browsing for Gigs on Steady

Browsing for gigs on Steady is location-based, so you’ll receive a prompt to input your current location.

Then, you’ll have four types of work to choose from:

1. work from home
2. anytime work
3. part-time
4. full-time

Work from Home

This sub-category shows a list of jobs varying from traditional jobs like tutoring to others like Airbnb hosting.

For me, most of the work from home jobs were “Uber driver” type side hustles—sites like Rover, Airbnb, Care.com, etc.

These are all side hustles where you sign up on the company’s platform and get connected with customers.

These are totally legitimate side hustles and we review several of these companies here on Part-Time Money, but they aren’t the type of opportunities I was hoping to see on Steady. I was hoping for companies who were looking to hire, perhaps even jobs which pay a salary and W-2 income.

But if you are new to this type of side hustle it’s still worth checking out.

There was a comprehensive list of opportunities, though, some of which I hadn’t yet heard of myself—like Swimply. This is an app which connects pool owners to people who want to come over and swim.

Who knew?

There is certainly money to be made here if you are looking for this type of side hustle.

Anytime Work

This category isn’t restricted to only work from home jobs. Again, it was mostly ride-share or delivery type side hustles, like DoorDash.

One opportunity which did catch my eye was a service called Lawn Love—it connects lawn care professionals with customers in their area. So if mowing lawns is something you are interested in this could be a way to help you build your book of customers.

This is different than say, driving for Uber, since you are building your own business which doesn’t rely on using the app for every dollar you make.

Both types of side hustles have their pros and cons, but I like that Steady has options for both.

Part-Time and Full-Time Work

This category provides the most extensive list of gigs and leads on the Steady app.

You will still find the ‘rideshare’ and ‘rent your stuff’ types of side hustles but there are also traditional part-time and full-time jobs listed as well. There were lots of local companies looking to fill positions at traditional jobs with a W-2 income.

The options are also diverse as you can find a gig in:

auto-repair

• retail
• creative
• child care
• hospitality

and many more.

Finally, they have a category for seasoned, Steady App users.

If you’ve been using this app before, you will want to select this filter so you can see only new opportunities.

It’s nice to have such functionality so you don’t spend your time looking through the jobs you’ve seen previously.

Applying for Gigs

Once you find a suitable gig, you follow the link provided on the app to apply or register for the gig.

This process will take you to a third-party site where the gig originated.

At this point, you can stop using the app, as all communication will now come from the third party site.

Track Your Earnings

Steady also helps you manage the income from the gigs you found on Steady using their Income Tracker.

You can see what gigs are earning you the most money and see all your earnings in one place.

This is great when you are too busy to keep track of this yourself. And it’s definitely something you should keep track of, especially if you are earning money from several sources.

You’ll want to make sure you are spending your time where you are earning the most.

Boosters

If it wasn’t just nice making money with Steady, how about saving money or taking advantage of additional offers just for gig workers like you?

Steady has an Income Boosters area where you can:

1. Find extra tax savings
2. Lower insurance rates
3. Get bonuses from certain type of work, like ridesharing
4. Get discounts on otherwise normal purchases

It’s a, well… BOOST to your already increasing income!

More About Steady

Steady started back in 2017 when one of the app founders, Adam Roseman, had a specific need the job market couldn’t fill.

Adam’s aging Dad was struggling to make ends meet in retirement. He was in desperate need of a part-time job.

Adam helped him find a part-time job which matched his skill set, availability, and goals.

This experience made Adam realize his Dad’s situation is common across the United States and the world. Indeed, finding and vetting potential work opportunities can be a taxing endeavor.

Thus, Steady App was born through the merger of technology and a pressing, yet ignored, need.

By 2018, and just one year in production, there had been over 100,000 installs. The team had also managed to raise $9 million in series A funding and also attracted NBA legend Shaquille O’Neil as a brand advocate. When I see my man Shaq getting behind a new venture, I have to check it out.

How Does Steady Make Money?

Since Steady is free to download and use, you may wonder how they make their money.

Steady earns money the same way we do here: through lead generation and affiliate marketing for the companies they assist.

In other words, Steady may be paid a commission from the companies if you work with them.

They also market financial products to you and likely make a commission if you sign up for these products or services.

Who is Steady Best For?

The Steady App is made with everyone interested in part-time work.

However, certain groups are better suited to the nature of gigs available on the platform.

Side Hustlers

If you are looking for opportunities which allow you to make money on your own time schedule through apps connecting you with customers, then you’ll find plenty of options on Steady.

As of right now, this seems to be their main type of gig.

They have a comprehensive list of these types of companies, so if you are looking for something outside of rideshare or restaurant delivery, you may find something which meets your needs.

Freelancers/Independent Contractors

There are also plenty of gigs allowing you to take your specific skill set and use it to earn more money on the side.

For example, there are tutoring apps which are looking for tutors, and other looking for handymen, or even nurses.

Others include:

• computer programming
• graphic and animation design
• writing and editing
• audio editing and recording
• etc.

Full-Time and Part-Time Job Seekers

I was glad to see  there are traditional jobs listed on the site and not just side hustle type gigs.

The Steady App is host to many gigs in the service industry.

You can settle into fields like:

• sales
• driving
• cleaning
• tech support
• personal assistance

and many more.

Positions also range from entry level and on up to managerial roles.

However, you shouldn’t get your hopes too high if you were looking for something permanent, salaried, or in an advanced field like engineering.

The gigs are more geared towards jobs anyone could do with a good attitude and some training.

Students and Graduates

If you are a college student looking to fill gaps of time between classes to earn an extra few bucks, Steady can probably help.

If you’re a recent graduate, or completing a higher level degree, it could even be used to find paid work within your field where you can gain experience and network within your desired industry.

Steady App Earning Potential

The pay for most gigs averages between $10 – $15 dollars an hour.

However, there some which can even go beyond $25 per hour.

You can maximize your potential by filtering out micro-tasks if you can commit to a longer work schedule.

Just like with any other endeavor, you need to factor in the opportunity cost while vetting tasks. It all boils down to your determination and the time you can put aside.

• Not as many traditional jobs as I was hoping to see
• The filter is inadequate for diverse needs
• Your earning potential isn’t listed for every gig

Alternatives to Steady

Steady truly is one of the only aggregators of its kind, outside of major hiring websites. For ease of use and getting started, there are not any competitors I’m aware of.

That said, plenty of other jobs-sites might be better alternatives if you’re not just looking for a consolidated list of side hustles and mini-gigs.

Sites geared towards more full-time work include:

1. FlexJobs
2. AppJobs
3. RobertHalf
4. ZipRecruiter
5. LinkedIn
6. CareerBuilder
7. GlassDoor
8. TaskRabbit

And there are probably a lot more.

Just know you’ll have a more difficult and lengthy sign-up time, and other costs may be involved to take part in their full offer.

Conclusion

Steady is more of an aggregator of a lot of different individual job apps and gig producers.

But Steady also adds in traditional local jobs, which is always convenient and efficient.

I hope the Steady team focuses on getting more local part-time opportunities on their site, especially in the “work from home” and “work anytime” categories.

Overall, I think it’s worth checking out.
