I Just Moved…

…web hosts, that is. I’d been with BlueHost on shared server space for over 2 years. Great service overall, but it was long time I stepped up to some dedicated space for ptmoney.com. I went with Media Temple’s (dv) Dedicated-Virtual plan. Media Temple uses Plesk instead of cPanel. So there were a few things to figure out.

Even the contractor from oDesk I hired to help me make the move had a bit of trouble navigating Plesk. But, with the help of MT support we were able to get it done. I still need your help though. If you see any weird things happening with the site please let me know (other than the post I ran through the feed twice this weekend).

Hey PT!

Just wanted to drop by to say thanks for the shoutout to Credit Karma! Keep putting out the great material.. see you around the blogosphere!

Cheers,
Justine

@funny it was only my slice of the pie that had issues.

@evan just make sure you have it bid by the job vs by the hour. Hourly can get out of hand.

Congrats on the upgrade. I'd love to hear about your experiences with oDesk. I just hired someone from there to do work on another site idea that I found out was way above my head lol

I think you'll be glad you went with Media Temple. I've been with them for over a year now, and love 'em! I've only had a couple of minor outages that were quickly resolved. Usually pretty good service, and the servers seem to be pretty solid.

Gosh, either I was asleep at the switch or I didn't notice they were down that much. They crashed for quite a while when the power went out in the Utah town where they reside, and they went down one other time that I noticed. But every day? I understand they have a number of servers...you must have had the luck to get a bad one!

Hope things go well in the new space!

Thanks for the link, BTW.

I'm having the same problem with them as well. Maybe it's because I joined them. sorry about that :)

@Kevin - A little bit of both. I'm anticipating bigger hits of traffic in the future and I want to be able to ramp up server resources immediately. And in general I'm just making enough each month to justify the cost. Can't afford to lose a day of revenue anymore. Lastly, the shared space I was on at BlueHost was on the fritz the past month. Everyday around 10am CT it would start having issues and would last about 2 hours. My site was unreachable to 2 hours of prime time traffic. I would call in and they would say they are working on it. After a few days of that, and no refund/rebate offers, I got really frustrated and decided to look for another space.

Thank you for the mention. What made you decide to change? Was the site just slowing down? or you like the reliability of a dedicated server?

Congrats on the change. I think it will be a good business move in the long run. :)
