I Cut the Cable – PrimeTime QuickHits

I officially dumped Dish Network late last week. I’m done with paying for TV service for a while. At least until the baby arrives and at&t’s uVerse (packaged TV and internet service) becomes available in my area.

That’s around $75 I’ve trimmed from the budget. I know there are plenty of others out there who swear by no TV. I can’t say I’m going totally without though. I’ll be watching a lot of TV shows online. Gizmodo.com put together a master list of all the free online TV shows. Plus, I’m buying an antenna soon to pick up on the over-the-air HD basic programming that’s available.

I am glad to see that you have made the move. We have not been able to go there yet, even though our TV watching time has gone down substantially since we had kids. Maybe you won't switch it back on when your child is born. Maybe you will wait until the time when your child will ask for TV due to peer pressure. But that much cable-free time would save you a heck of a lot of money.

I am impressed by the cable-cutting move. There are lots of folks out there who are flat-broke but still consider cable to be off-limits for cutting back. Keep up the good work- it's inspiring to see.

Good for you PT. I think my kids would riot if I cut cable- although there are alternatives for watching cartoons such as videos, etc. But the big question is-How are you going to watch LSU games?
