20 Cheap and Creative Halloween Costumes for 2012

Snooki Jersey Shore

Jersey Shore Snooki – Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is the most recognizable and most likable star of the MTV reality show, the Jersey Shore. A show that people watch when they have too much time on their hands or when they want to feel good about themselves. Kidding. Seriously though, hopefully no one’s kids are watching this show. Regardless, Snooki makes for a good cheap Halloween costume. All you need is some big hair, an over-the-top outfit, lot’s of spray on tan, and you are ready to go.

Twilight Vampire

Twilight Vampires – This one is probably getting old. What are they on, like movie #15? Anyway, it’s a great cheap costume idea though. And you no longer have to dork out like I did back in the 80s. All I had was Count Von Count from Sesame Street as a model. Now we have emo-faced teens with good hair sporting the look in a bunch of books and movies. Grab your wife’s powder and eye liner and go to town. I dare you.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber – Teen pop sensation, Justin Bieber, is begging to be mocked with that perfectly combed-forward hair and bubble gum pop song collection. If you don’t have the long hair for it, find a cheap or used wig to use. I’m begging someone to show up as middle-aged, has-been Bieber.

Despicable Me

Despicable Me Minions – This one might be a bit hard to pull off doing it yourself. But the basic idea is simple: overalls (with the little G” symbol), goggles, and gloves.

Yo Gabba Gabba

Yo Gabba Gabba Characters – Another one for the kids (or kids at heart). Have you seen these Yo Gabba Gabba characters? One weird show, but the kids love it. These costumes look pretty hard to pull off, but someone actually made their own Muno costume. Looks pretty good.

Upcycle a bridesmaid dress! (I was the Queen of Hearts for a few years. A heart link belt, a heart necklace, a heart painted on my cheek, and a heart tiara and I was good to go.)

I just have to take off my glasses which is enough to scare small children and dogs. An electrician friend of mine and his wife costumed as a plug and socket - I thought that was cute.

Gadaffi and Bin-Laden will feature a lot this year I woould guess. Since the world does not have to worry about then anymore we can start having a few laughs.

I really want to dress up as an Angry Bird to impress my 4 year-old, but I would never be able to live down the pictures.

Karen I completely agree with you about Halloween being for the kids. My 4 year-old niece is obsessed with Ursula from the Little Mermaid. Luckily for us my wife's best friend has an Ursula costume that she can wear. So my wife can make my niece's day for free.

We're both really excited about that.

A friend of mine went as change you can believe in in 2008--he taped quarters and other coins all over his sweater.

We try to go cheap on costumes. My wife is going as a Merlotte's waitress this year. A white t-shirt and some office-supply iron-on paper make the costume.

I don't generally dress up, since I prefer to spend the money on our over-decorated yard.

You may need to rethink your Snookie costume, Babe...I'm just saying...

Halloween costumes for me are being scary. I really don’t want cartoon costumes to wear in the Halloween it just makes me funny. I want to have more thrilled and frightening when ever they see me. That’s the true Halloween means!
