Orchard Bank Credit Card: 4 Options for Building Credit

by PT on February 9, 2010

This is an updated review of the Orchard Bank Credit Card. Use the links below to apply for a credit card with bad credit.

The Orchard Bank Credit Card is actually a product of HSBC, the well known international bank, who also owns HSBC Advance, the online savings account product. The Orchard Bank series of credit cards are perfect for someone who’s credit situation is not the best and needs to work on rebuilding their credit.

Whether you have no credit history, poor credit history, or if you’re recovering from a bankruptcy, this card can help you get your credit back. Building credit history takes time though, and a credit card, whether secure or standard, should be used wisely and seen as a long-term solution as a part of a larger plan to improve things.

When you apply with Orchard Bank for a credit card, you’ll have a chance at getting one or more of the four credit cards that they offer. You are screened and then shown your options. Here are the four cards:

Orchard Bank Secured MasterCard – Waived annual fee the first year. Low APR. Reports to 3 credit bureaus.

Orchard Bank MasterCard – Low annual fee and intro rate. Low APR.

Orchard Bank Gold MasterCard – Low annual fee and intro rate. Low APR. Increased benefits with Gold program.

Orchard Bank Platinum MasterCard – No intro fees. Low Annual fee and APR. Platinum level benefits.

Low Annual Fees and Decent Rates

The bad thing about this card, in general, is that it comes with an annual fee, and as you see above, some versions come with an application fee. The fees aren’t huge, like an American Express annual fee, but they are there. I would normally never recommend a card with an annual fee, but most cards of this type (no credit/poor credit) typically do have an annual fee. So at least these fees aren’t that high.

On the flip side, these cards have pretty decent APR rates. And anyone with poor credit history or no credit history can apply and have a shot at one of these cards.

Other Features Include

  • Acceptance at millions of locations worldwide, including website purchases and reservations
  • Your account information is updated and at your fingertips 24/7 so you can manage it your way
  • Email and text messages to remind you of your upcoming payment due date with online enrollment
  • On-call customer service representatives to assist you with questions or concerns

Bottom Line: Thanks to the Orchard Bank credit card, you can apply for a credit card with bad credit. It’s one of the best cards on the market for those building credit. Low intro and annual fees. Better rate than most.
