He and his wife always led a normal life with the good things in it, but nothing over the top. So, they managed to sock quite a bit of money away. He also accumulated some wealth on collecting certain things like 45 bee-bop records, rare art books (he was an art teacher), baseball cards, toys, etc. Some of these things are actually quite valuable and he sells them off now and then just to raise a little money.
