Second Economic Stimulus Check Will Have to Wait

It appears that the second economic stimulus package will have to wait until January 20th, 2009.  Congress abandoned plans for a second economic stimulus package late last week.

Did You Get Your First Economic Stimulus Check?

Check this out.  Thousands of people have yet to receive their first stimulus check.  The IRS reports, “more than 279,000 economic stimulus checks totaling about $163 million” have been returned to the IRS because the address was wrong.  If you need to update the IRS with your address to receive your check, go to the “Where’s My Stimulus Payment?” section of the IRS website.  Hurry, the deadline is November 28th.

Second Chance at the First Stimulus Check

Lastly, if last year, you made too much money and were denied the first stimulus check, or if you only received a partial amount, be sure and read this article from the Wall Street Journal Online about your second chance at a check.  According to the article, people who’s 2008 income is lower than their 2007 income, may “qualify for a recovery rebate credit.”  This rebate credit will be applied to your 2008 tax return filed in 2009.  If you had a baby in 2008 you should get more too.  This season’s tax software should inform you about any rebate credits.

I guess we’ll have to wait until next year to see what happens then!

The only stimulus package that will work is one in which money starts circulating through the economy again.

I’ve outlined a proposal based upon the highly successful emissions cap-and-trade model at http://writertotheworld.com/consumer-cap-and-trade-stimulus/

I recommend everyone read it and comment, because we need new ideas instead of these tired old ones that don’t work.

I think that SSI recipients will receive a stimulus check after filing their taxes, because even thought it is not wages, I think the IRS will mail the “refund” the same way that they mail the earned income credit refund checks for low-income single filers and head of household filers.
