The New $5 Bill

The New Fiver

The New Fiver Back

Security Features

The new five has some pretty neat security features (watermarks, security thread).  Be sure and check them out at MoneyFactory.gov.  Excerpt from that site:

“The new $5 bills, which entered circulation on March 13, 2008, are safer, smarter and more secure: safer because they’re harder to fake and easier to check; smarter to stay ahead of savvy counterfeiters; and more secure to protect the integrity of U.S. currency. Because security features are difficult for counterfeiters to reproduce well, they often do not try, hoping that cash handlers and the public will not check their money.”

Big Purple 5?

If you’re like me and carry some cash in your wallet, this new five will begin to jump out at you because of that big purple #5.  It’s apparently there for the vision impaired.

Yes, it’s a joke that I placed this in the “make money” category…don’t go printing this page.

Thank you for posting this! I hardly carry cash (personal decision) and I doubt I would have noticed otherwise. I LOVE the big purple “5″ on the back! It’s very Euro-style and I adore it. When I was living in Italy, I used cash exclusively – even for rent – because checks weren’t accepted from America (duh), I didn’t carry traveler’s checks, and using my debit card was very expensive.

I really like the Euro bills because they’re so easy to read – big numbers on the front and back in different colors. I love how distinguishing the different colors are, and how big the numbers were – easier to identify, even for a non-European-native. I think they did it this way to make it easier for all the people in Europe who had to learn to work with the new money back in (when? I don’t know for sure) 2001. ;)

Thanks for this, again :) What fun.

I like the foreign bills as well and that we are moving that direction…
