Hope you don’t mind me sharing this (a bit off-topic) freebie.
Now that football is over and the writers strike is in full effect, I don’t have as much use for my TV. There’s only so many reruns of Survivorman I can take. I’m considering cancelling my Dish Network service till the fall. Yesterday, I ran across this article from the Dallas Morning News which encouraged me even more to cancel. It highlights some of the new Web TV Episodes that have popped up since the writers strike began. The author says,
“Striking writers have created dozens of professional-grade shows for the Web. An extended strike could bring hundreds more. Yes, hundreds.”
I checked some of these sites out and offer links up for you. Warning: some of this looks pretty low-budget and/or crude, so be careful if at work.
Let’s start with Quarterlife. From the makers of thirtysomething and My So-Called Life, this is a full blown series that’s soon to appear on regular TV.
From 60Frames.com (writers from NBC and Comedy Central):
- Erik the Librarian – I watched the two short episodes. Funny or just annoying? It at least has “Kelly”, from The Office in it.
- WhoWhatWear - A fashion show.
- Black Version - Parodies of movies using black actors. Great concept.
- Phake TV - TV Spoofs, including “Extreme Makeover – Homeless Edition”.
- Cockpit - Comedy about what goes on “behind the cockpit door.”
Funny or Die – The home of the Will Ferrell Landlord video.
Shred or Die – Extreme Sports
MyBlueCollar- Amateur Comedy
From MySpaceTV: Prom Queen, Lonelygirl, and Roommates
Stage6 - Looks to have some nice documentaries including Steal This Film II.
MoCap LLC - More comedy
Channel Frederator - Cartoons
Of course, you could always just turn off the episodes and go find a book to read. If you have a favorite web episode you’d like to share please do so in the comments below.
