My wife and I saw the movie Dan in Real Life last night. It was about a guy named Dan, played by Michael Scott…er, I mean Steve Carrell. You essentially got to see him living his life, almost from his perspective, over a family holiday/get-together. Dan is getting over his wife’s death, having trouble being a Dad to his daughters, and searching for new love all at the same time. I would definitley recommend it.

What I liked most about the film though was the warmth and believability of the family scenes. Dan’s family (brothers, sisters, their kids, grandparents) are all couped up in the grandparent’s Rhode Island ocean-front home. It’s a beautiful setting and the actors did a great job of selling the whole family get-together scenes, especially the grandparents.

Do you ever stop to invision what your life will be like at that point?

I was inspired to think about my life and if my wife and I will have that kind of “scene” in the future. I’d sure like to. It made me realize the importance of taking care of ourselves, investing in our relationships, and living below our means enough to build a stable empire of sorts for my future family to rely on.
