How to Build a Home - Foundation Construction
We’re having a home built by D.R. Horton, and I’m back with an update. We’re beginning the foundation construction stage. Here’s a list of the steps required to build a home, according to http://www.howstuffworks.com/:

The type of foundation they will use on our house is a slab. Here’s a nice illustration (the gray section is the slab):
Apparently, this type of foundation “works well on level sites in warmer climates.” Ah, we live in Texas (the “warm and flat” State), so I guess we’ll take a slab. Right now, the concrete hasn’t been poured, so you can see the trenches, plastic (to keep moisture out in the future), and the wire support. I took a few pictures:
This was taken from the rear of the town home. Our unit is the middle one. These two rows of dirt (covered in plastic) are ours. You can see the 2 x 4 outline of our two car garage.
This is from the front and you can get a better idea of what the trenches look like. I also wanted to point out the energy drink can. Construction contractors are seriously trashy. I always see this type of stuff strewn about. But, the finished product is always clean. I guess my home is their trash can until they finish.
Finally, here’s a nice pic from the front left corner. You can see some workers on the right side. They were putting holders underneath the wire structure. They told me that the city inspector was coming tomorrow. I guess these are last-minute preparations. Hope they have their energy!
