Are You Getting Things Done?

Today, while doing some research on personal productivity, I stumbled upon these “Getting Things Done” workflow desktop backgrounds. I sometimes struggle with getting things done in my life. Whether it’s stuff at work or personal matters, I think we all tend to lose focus and jump from task to task occasionally.

I haven’t studied David Allen’s methods for getting things done, but the flow chart on the background looks great and gets the message across quickly and easily. I’m going to place one on my desktop to remind me to prioritize the things that hit my inbox. I already feel more productive.

Some things that enable us to be more productive with our finances:

  • Using auto pay for most of my bills. It took us a while before I felt comfortable implementing this, but it has made a huge difference. I only worry about our bills a few times a month, for those that we can’t automate (rent, water, electric).
  • Setting up threshold limits on savings and checking accounts. We have our bank automatically notify us when our balances dip below a certain point. This keeps us from checking our accounts all the time.
  • Automating our retirement savings. Most employers will do this for you. I recommend doing this as early on in your career as possible. It’s easier to set it up now, than later, when you’re already used to spending those extra dollars.
