Credit Card Late Fee Was Waived!

Last week I was reviewing our bank credit card account online. There it was: an ugly late fee for $15. After reviewing the account, I realized my last payment (which was the full balance, since we don’t carry a balance) had been recieved a day late. Bummer! Since we have the montly regular expenses tracker, online account reminders, and since this account is linked to our bank checking account, there’s really no excuse for this happening. We just messed up. We all do it once in a while, right? So what do you do when this happens? I emailed customer support and asked/begged them to waive the fee.

YES!  The fee was waived because they “value me as a customer.” These kind actions separate the companies we’re loyal to, versus those that we leave when a better offer comes around. Lesson learned here is that (1) we need to review our bill due notification methods, and (2) you should always ask when it comes to late fees.

I’m interested in hearing how you keep track of your bills so that you’re never late. Leave a comment below. Also, what’s the biggest late fee you’ve ever had waived just by asking?

Sometimes all you have to do is ask! Great job! Although some credit card issuers are better than others…

We’d love to get your feedback. We recently started a poll on the Worst / Best Credit Card Issuer. Feel free to stop by and give us your opinion.

yea everyone gets their fee’s waived the first time. I work for a c/c company though adn as soon as one gets waived then everytime someone gets a finance charge (i’m sure you also wined and complained about the day of finance charges since you didnt pay the account in full by the due date) or late fee or overlimit fee they expect it to be waived. it’ll be funny after about your third waiver when the bank finally cuts you off. if you pay your balance in full every month they make no money off of you and are worthless to them. have fun :)

I have my bank (TD Canada Trust Visa in Canada)simply debit my account every month when the bill is due. (Make sure you keep enough money in the account!) I’m sure they don’t like doing this, but they do.
